Dr. Bimal Kumar Nirmal, having the experience of 30 years in agriculture and livestock sector. He is the agribusiness expert and having long association with Governmental, development partners, private sectors and farmers’ organizations. He is gold medalist in master degree of meat technology. He joined government job in 1993 as veterinary officer and worked as counter officer of Gulmi Arghakhanchi Rural Development Project (GARDEP) funded by European Union for 5 years.He also worked as Senior Veterinary Officer in Regional Verinary Laboratory and associated as team leader of regional Poverty alleviation projects of goat and poultry Value chains for more than six years. He also worked with Community Livestock Development project (CLDP) , funded by ADB in which he performed role with private sectors, agriculture and livestock value chains and market development. He was District coordinator of ADB funded CLDP, WB funded PACT project and mostly promoted agribusiness, worked with private sectors and value chain development.
He was promoted at the Gazzete I officer and appointed as chief Livestock Development Officer at National Livestock Breeding Center in 2009-2014, became the team leader of many Governmental and nongovernmental projects in the area of dairy value chain development. He was the Team leader of Government owned Artificial insemination mission program in 45 districts, Dairy Cattle Improvement Project, funded by FAO, Buffalo Genetic Improvement Project, funded by USAID, Coordinate and implement to access the impacts of climate change for buffaloes and application of mitigation measures to improve productivity with technical assistance of USAID and Michigan State University. He was upgraded as Program Director of Directorate of Livestock Production where he was team leader of forage mission, goat mission and pig mission, national coordinator of Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR). He supported the farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives and agricultural companies for commercial farming by facilitating Government subsidies, insurance, bank loans and mechanization of farms. He became the Project Director of High Mountain Agribusiness and Livelihood Improvement Project (HIMALI ) funded by ADB, in which he assisted the 650 subprojects in agribusiness, livestock value chains, herbs and fisheries with help of Federation of Industries and commerce Association , Nepal. He became Director General for 2.5 years, he has worked as national OIE delegate and chief Veterinary Officer, project coordinator for Emergency Control of Transboundary Diseases of Animals, funded by FAO. He also chaired the HIMALI project and Export, Import coordination committee assisting private sectors, agribusiness and market development of livestock products. He was provincial secretary of Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of province 1 and Madhesh Province. He contributed largely in managing agribusiness especially in tomatoes and mangoes and run the whole sale markets, constructed by WB (PACT project) and also worked with Farmers’ organization and cooperatives (Commercial Agriculture Alliance). He worked as Joint Secretary and Acting secretary in Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock development. He also became the chairman of Government owned Dairy Development Corporation and chairman of Grievances committee of Nepal Livestock Sector Innovation project, funded by WB which mostly dealt with agribusiness and value chain Development of private and cooperative farms.
